iso-Decyl Methacrylate (IDMA)

iso-Decyl Methacrylate (iDMA) is an ester of Methacrylic Acid and is used as a raw material component in the synthesis of polymers. The ester is a hydrophobic monofunctional methacrylate monomer consisting of a methacrylate group with a characteristic high reactivity and a cyclic hydrophobic group. It forms homopolymers and copolymers which can be prepared with acrylic acid and its salts, amides, and esters, etc.

iso-Decyl Methacrylate (iDMA) is a very useful starting material in applications such as anaerobic adhesives, vacuum impregnation sealants, high solids acrylic polyols for automotive coatings. It offers low viscosity and low odor combined with low shrinkage on polymerization. The monomer is with a low glass transition temperature (Tg) and hence is excellent as a flexible and plasticizing monomer.
